Jay Z To Release His First Fragrance

Rapper Jay Z is moving on from the racial profiling controversy surrounding top etailer Barneys by unveiling plans to launch his first fragrance exclusively at the store.

Barney's bosses faced a public backlash in October over allegations two black shoppers had been hauled before New York police during separate shopping trips after staff questioned how they could afford to buy expensive designer items.

Both parties have since filed discrimination lawsuits against executives at the retailer, and the scandal prompted calls for the 99 Problems hitmaker to cut his ties with brand bosses, who he recently teamed up with for a curated designer collection.

Jay Z insisted he was "waiting on facts and the outcome of a meeting between community leaders and Barneys" before deciding on his next step, and bosses at the New York-based store have since apologised to the rapper for having his name dragged into the racial profiling scandal.

However, it appears he is not too concerned with the controversy as he is pressing ahead with the introduction of his Gold fragrance, which will hit stores on November 20.

And Jay Z is planning a big marketing push to celebrate the launch.

Gold fragrance licensee Donald J. Loftus tells WWD.com, ''We are going to make a big noise. For the 30 days before Christmas, it will be impossible not to know he has a fragrance. Jay stressed that he didn't want to do what had been done before.''

Jay Z, who reportedly went through 3,200 names before deciding on Gold, is planning to expand the fragrance into deodorant and shower gel lines

Pioneer KUVO: Real Time Track Info In Clubs

Pioneer is soft launching a new product – dubbed KUVO – a new web service that takes the behavior of Richie Hawtin’s Twitter DJ and incorporates it into an actual club setup with the addition of one small box. KUVO pushes DJ and track information from the booth onto the internet, making checking in on what the DJ is playing right now as easy as opening an app – read on to learn more.

KUVO OVERVIEW

The soft launch of KUVO seemed to start in Amsterdam at ADE in mid-October, with the launch of a companion website (http://djclubnetwork.com) that shares a few details on the future of the system. Pioneer aims to bring metadata to massives, allowing performing DJs to share their track information via KUVO to their audience and fans. You might have seen Pioneer briefly post a video announcing the service on their YouTube page, which has since been taken down in anticipation of a larger upcoming launch.
At it’s core, KUVO takes on the issue of being an audience member who can’t peek into the booth to see what the playing track name is – or even the identity of the DJ behind the decks. Whip out a smartphone app, location detect the venue, and instantly know who’s playing, and what track is coming out of the speakers. Starting to sound a bit like Ean’s predication of the future of DJing yet?

THE TECHNOLOGY: INSTALLING KUVO

Pioneer’s NXS-GW: Not much to look at, but the backbone of the system.

There’s a whole application process that’s required to get the KUVO box, dubbed the NXS-GW (shown above). The unit isn’t designed to be a piece of gear that a DJ owns – but instead it gets installed in a venues – clubs, bars, festivals – DJ booths that get a wide array of performers and audience members. Venues apply for the service here, and then create an account profile that will collect all of the DJs, sets, and tracks played at their venue.
The requirements for venues from a technical perspective are pretty much what you’d expect – utilizing Pioneer’s PRO DJ Link ethernet cable between Pioneer’s DJ gear and the NXS-GW. Venues will need:

• NXS-GW
• Internet LAN cable available around the DJ booth
• DJ player: CDJ-2000nexus
• DJ mixer: DJM-2000nexus, DJM-2000, DJM-900nexus, DJM-900SRT

WHAT’S DIFFERENT FOR THE DJ

DJs can add custom crowd-facing metadata to tracks.

Many DJs will wonder if this new Pioneer technology will be the end of exclusive tracks and secret set lists – not so. Pioneer has introduced a few new features into the Rekordbox software that allows for easy marking of tracks as Secret or Public. The software update also allows DJs to their own messages and information with tracks, like in the above promo photo with James Zabiela. DJs not using Rekordbox to organize their collection won’t have access to the same level of custom metadata, and every track is published onto the set playlist.
At the moment it doesn’t look like there’s integration for HID-based use of the CDJ-2000s for sending track information from Traktor or Serato – but we suspect that this also is on the product roadmap.
Additionally, In order to stop DJs from impersonating each other and fraudulent promotion of tracks, Pioneer has also set up an authentication process that requires DJs to register and acquire an authentication key.

We’re guessing this is just the beginning of the features that KUVO will allow for DJs – and that more dynamic interaction with the crowd will become possible with the smartphone application. Requests and track feedback are likely being discussed as options – what would you use the system for?

As mentioned above, the entire KUVO system is paired with a smartphone app downloadable by the actual audience members – as well as the entire online interface. Have a look at an example set that Pioneer product developer X-ian played at Cafe d’Anvers in the Netherlands to get a good idea of what a typical set looks like to a user.
Fans will be able to watch what top DJs are playing as well – so if you want to know what James Zabiela played last night, just check KUVO. We’re sure to see a fair amount of crate digging opportunity from this type of system.  There’s also top/trending tracks and DJs – which counts the number of times audience members have hit the “like” button on a DJ or track, and the ability for audience members to take photos with the app and associate them with the event – something that we’ve seen a number of major music festivals start doing as well.

Miley Cyrus Shares Image Of Explicitly Carved Pumpkins For Halloween

Miley Cyrus has gotten into the pagan spirit this year by posting a pair of pornographic carved pumpkins to her Twitter page, wishing everyone a "Happy F**king Halloween."

"xxxxxxplicit pornkinzzz," she tweeted along with the explicit image below (that we can't fully show you -- see it on her twitter page).

The three gourds she photographed and shared with fans (we're not sure if they're hers or not) feature the profile of a man and a woman having sex; a marijuana leaf with the time "4:20" carved next to it; and a graphic lesbian scene.

The singer also wore a pair of wigs in two other halloween snaps, reminding fans of what she looked like when her hair was long in one of them. She then wore a lavender wig that kind of reminds us of the blue one Amanda Bynes was spotted wearing on several occasions before she was sent off to a psychiatric hospital.

Miley also posted a photo of herself in front of a store windo. The display inside features a donkey wearing a dress, leading us to wonder if she

was mocking a similar photo posted by ex-boyfriend Liam Hemsworth's new gal-pal Eiza Gonzalez. Gonzalez stopped in front of a retail display in the window of an adult boutique that featured two mannequins dressed as Miley and Robin Thicke from their MTV Video Music Awards performance and scowled

Chris Brown is being urged to stay in rehab for three months.

The 'Fine China' singer checked into a treatment facility in Malibu, California, on Tuesday (10.29.13), just two days after being arrested for assault after allegedly breaking a man's nose outside a hotel in Washington D.C., and his management team want him to remain there until early next year.
A source told gossip website TMZ.com: "The rehab facility has been told to take him [Brown] apart and put him back together."
The 24-year-old star, who is still on probation for beating his ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, is reportedly open to remaining in care so he can learn how to cope with his anger management issues and prove he is serious about overcoming them, as he has been warned by his lawyer, Mark Geragos, that he could be sentenced to up to four years behind bars if the judge decides he has violated his probation.
A spokesperson for the singer previously said: "Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility. His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point."
The 'Forever' hitmaker was released without bail on Monday (10.28.13), one day after he and his bodyguard were arrested after reportedly hitting the man and making a homophobic slur in the early hours of Sunday morning (10.27.13), when the man and a friend attempted to insert themselves in a picture he was taking with two females.
The star's lawyer insists he is not guilty.

UK Music Video Awards 2013: weather can't stop tonight's UKMVAs and aftershow party at Southbank Centre!

The show will go on! Despite storms and high winds battering southern England today, the UK Music Video Awards 2013 goes ahead as planned this evening at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre in London - with the aftershow party happening at the same venue. Doors at the QEH open at 6.45pm for the show that will start at 7.30, hosted once again by Adam Buxton, and will begin with a performance by dancers from RiRi Productions, one of this year's UKMVA award sponsors. Over 30 awards will be presented to the makers of the best work in music video in the past year, plus a special Icon Award to the MVA's honorary guest Julien Temple, and culminating in the award for Video of the Year. All the nominations for this year's awards are here. What's more, there's no need to brave the elements between the awards ceremony and the aftershow party as in previous years. The party is also taking place at the QEH, and will begin straight after the awards show ends, until 2am. In fact, the forecasters are saying that the weather for central London is set to improve - still windy, but not as strong as last night and this morning, and rain is also unlikely. So everything is set for a fantastic event this evening. A week to go to the UK Music Video Awards 2013, and a brand new award has been announced that will be presented at the awards ceremony on October 28th which is tonight - the VEVO Best New Artist award. This new award, to be presented at the UKMVAs for the first time, is chosen from the most popular videos from artists who appear on the VEVO New Artist video chart, featuring those who are currently promoting their first album.

Britney Spears Songs Used To Scare Away Somali Pirates

Shipping crews off the coast of Africa are using Britney Spears' music to deter pirates.

Security teams accompanying supertankers in the region blast out tracks including ...Baby One More Time and Oops! I Did It Again from huge on-deck speakers when they see Somali raiders approaching.

The unusual tactic is used when suspected pirates ignore initial instructions to move away from cargo ships, and Britney's songs were chosen as research showed she is the marine bandits' least favorite singer.

British Merchant Navy officer Rachel Owens, who guides ships through the dangerous seas, tells The Sun newspaper, "As soon as the pirates get a blast of Britney they move on as quickly as they can. Her songs were chosen by security accompanying tankers because they thought the pirates would hate them most."

Owens added "These guys can't stand Western culture or music, making Britney's hits perfect."

Steven Jones, of the Security Association for the Maritime Industry, joked: "I'd imagine using Justin Bieber would be against the Geneva Convention. Pirates will go to any lengths to avoid or try to overcome the music, even using earplugs."

Rapper Jay-Z has broken his silence after he was urged to cut ties with luxury retailer Barneys over the reported racial profiling of two customers at the U.S. store.

Fans are demanding the hip-hop star end his association with the high-end chain, which has come under fire over allegations two young black shoppers were detained by cops after making expensive purchases at a New York City branch.

More than 1,400 signatures were added to an online petition asking Jay-Z to pull his name from an upcoming fashion collection he curated with designers at Barneys, which he was rumoured to be profiting from.

The 99 Problems hitmaker has now issued a statement on his website Life +Times to address the controversy, claiming the clothing deal will benefit his charity, the Shawn Carter Foundation.

The rap mogul writes, "This collaboration lives in a place of giving and is about the Foundation. I am not making a dime from this collection; I do not stand to make millions, as falsely reported. I need to make that fact crystal clear... This money is going to help individuals facing socio-economic hardships to help further their education at institutions of higher learning. My idea was born out of creativity and charity...not profit."

Jay-Z went on to explain that he is waiting for all the facts to come in about the incident at Barneys in Manhattan before he makes his next move.

He added, "I move and speak based on facts and not emotion. I haven't made any comments because I am waiting on facts and the outcome of a meeting between community leaders and Barneys. Why am I being demonized, denounced and thrown on the cover of a newspaper for not speaking immediately?

"The negligent, erroneous reports and attacks on my character, intentions, and the spirit of this collaboration have forced me into a statement I didn't want to make without the full facts... Making a decision prematurely to pull out of this project, wouldn't hurt Barneys or Shawn Carter, but all the people that stand a chance at higher education."

The star, whose collaboration is due to hit shelves on November 20th concluded, "Hopefully this brings forth a dialogue to effect real change."
